SteamVR Graphic Tuning Guide

This guide is to help players tune their PCVR video settings in order to have the best possible experience in Dungeons of Eternity for SteamVR.

Streaming
Most PCVR players prefer to stream from their computer to their headset using either Steam Link, Virtual Desktop, or Meta Quest Link. Regardless of the streaming solution you prefer, it is recommended you have a router capable of 6ghz band for optimal streaming quality.

Note: If you are using Virtual Desktop, you must set SSW (Synchronous Spacewarp) to AUTOMATIC or DISABLED, or the framerate and physics updates will be out of sync resulting in slow-mo movement.

Must-Do First: Adjust Eye Resolution and Refresh Rate!
Depending on the types of PCVR games you play, you may have adjusted eye resolution and refresh rate and we need to set these to reasonable settings before moving forward. DoE utilizes a lot of physics for it’s gameplay, and a mismatch of framerate and physics timings can result in undesirable slow-mo movement and physics. Adjusting eye resolution and refresh rate will improve performance more than any other setting.

Note: By default, DoE will cap the eye resolution as a preventative for the slow-mo movement. Players can disable this cap and push the eye resolution higher if they so desire. (disable “Limit Resolution Per Eye” under Graphics Settings)

As we learn about more issues from the community, we will update this section of the page.

Virtual Desktop Users: You must set SSW (Synchronous Spacewarp) to DISABLED, or the framerate and physics updates will be out of sync resulting in slow-mo movement (fix is also in testing)

Once you have reasonable settings for eye resolution and refresh rate, we can move onto tweaking the in-game graphics.

Performance Info
You may have found this page through the in-game Performance Info page. This page shows system hardware info, frame rate, GPU/CPU percentage, your current refresh rate, and current render resolution. Below this section are “Recommended Steam VR Settings” based off your system hardware information. Read the tooltip on this page for more guidance.

Protip: You can keep the Performance Info window up and play the game to see how much GPU, CPU, and framerate change while playing. Make adjustments to eye resolution, refresh rate, and the graphics settings to fine-tune your experience.

Graphics Settings
There are numerous visual options players can adjust for visual quality and performance. Some settings are much more costly when it comes to performance. Adjust the higher cost options first, as some options do not impact performance too much.

Volumetric FX

sets the density of atmospheric effects such as light beams and glows

Performance Cost: High

Real-Time Shadows

sets the quality of real-time soft shadows

Performance Cost: Medium

Bloom FX

sets the glow intensity on bright surfaces

Performance Cost: Low

Image Sharpening

enables a filter which sharpens the overall rendered view

Performance Cost: Low

Ambient Occlusion

sets the quality of a real-time ambient occlusion effect

Performance Cost: High

Lighting Quality

sets the number of real-time lights active at one time

Performance Cost: Medium

Detail Geometry

enables additional detail models in the environment

Performance Cost: Low

Animated Skies

enables higher-quality

Should I connect my headset to my computer wired or wireless?

If you are technically inclined and don't want a wire, we recommend wireless. Below is a general guide:

  1. Ideally use a WiFi 6E or 7 router for the 6 GHZ band.

  2. Configure the router for split bands to reduce interference.

  3. Connect your PC to the router using an Ethernet cable.

  4. Connect your headset to the 6 GHZ WiFi network, ideally without other devices on that band.

  5. Launch your preferred PCVR link app on your headset.

  6. Launch Dungeons of Eternity.

If you prefer a simple setup, we recommend wired. Below is a general guide:

  1. Plug in a cable from your PC to your headset using USB 3.0 or higher (at least 5 Gbps bandwidth) for a reliable experience.

  2. Follow the in headset prompts.

  3. Launch Dungeons of Eternity.
